Saint Joseph Grade School September 15th, 2019 Chess Tournament
The St. Joseph Grade School Chess Club in South Bend will be hosting a chess tournament on Sunday, September 15th open to both kids and adults. The deadline for registration is Friday, September 13th. Limited to the first 60 sign-ups!

Location: The Ackles Center across the street from St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend (711 E Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN 46617). Enter through the double doors on the east side of the building.

Time: doors open at 11:45am; round 1 at 12:15pm; all rounds as soon as possible after that; we will conclude by 4:30pm. If you cannot make it by 12:15pm but would like to play, let us know and we can give you a half-point bye in the first round.

Cost: $10. You can pay advance via paypal (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme2/toddwalatka) or on site by cash or check.

3 US Chess Rated Sections  
1. Beginners: U300; 5-6 games, G25/5
2. Intermediate: U800; 4-5 games, G25/5
3. Advanced: Open; 3 games, G40/5. The advanced section will be split into 4-8 person groups by rating. Our August tournament had two advanced sections.
[above is the projected sections and time controls, but these may be adjusted based upon sign-ups; we usually play 5 rounds in the lower sections, but will end a round early if the final round cannot be completed by close to 4:30pm]

Prizes: chess books for top finishers in the beginner and intermediate sections; winner of each advanced section group will win a small cash prize

US Chess Membership: this is a rated tournament so all participants need a USCF membership, which can be purchased  at the US Chess website: https://secure2.uschess.org/webstore/member.php

Food: small snacks (goldfish, pretzels, grapes, oreos, or similar items) will be provided free for all players; other food can be brought by players but please no nuts or peanuts. No food for purchase on site.
