NOTE: THIS IS AN ANONYMOUS SURVEY BEING CONDUCTED BY THE SOUTHERN BURLINGTON COUNTY NJ NAACP BRANCH, IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE WILLINGBORO AND VICINITY BRANCH, AND GREATER DELAWARE VALLEY NAACP BRANCH. NO PERSONAL INFORMATION IS BEING COLLECTED. Would you like to see Burlington County towns have police alternatives such as Crisis Response Programs for mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse emergencies (mobile crisis teams, EMS-based responses, 911 diversion programs, peer navigator programs)? *
Would you support Burlington County towns investing in Crisis Response Programs with funds divested from the police department budgets? *
Would you say your police department's number of Black and other non-White officers is representative of the town's population? *
(NOTE: The following information is for contextual purposes only). For many, the Thin Blue Line Flag is a symbol of solidarity and a tribute to fallen officers. For many others, the flag is a symbol of division that supports the "us" versus "them" mentality for those in law enforcement. In recent years, the Thin Blue Line flag has flown alongside confederate and swastika flags by neo-Nazis and KKK members at events such as the August 11-12, 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, VA, and most recently at the January 6, 2021 insurrection by white supremacists at the nation's capitol. It's also often seen at counter-protest rallies across the country in support of the police, when communities protest the murder of numerous unarmed Black persons by law enforcement officers. To numerous members of Black and Brown communities, the Thin Blue Line flag, much like the swastika for the Jewish community, represents violent intolerance.
Do you feel that police officers, or any public servants, should be able to display Thin Blue Line flag imagery while on duty (on masks, on patches, on buttons, painted on police cars, displayed in police departments or other public buildings, etc)? *
(NOTE: The following information is for contextual purposes only). Some feel that police reform is influenced by the political campaign contributions and endorsements made by police unions. "In many cities, including New York, the unions are a political force, their endorsements and campaign donations coveted by both Republicans and Democrats. The legislation they support tends to get passed, their candidates elected. They insist on public displays of respect and may humiliate mayors who displease them.
