Distribute drawing paper and crayons. Invite your child to draw a picture of their church building in the center of the page. *
Invite your child to add some pictures around their church building to show people praying, learning in class, helping others, and having fun. Encourage them to draw things our parish does. *
Tell your child that their pictures need one final thing-a name. Ask: "What is the name of our parish?" Write the name of our church somewhere they can see. Give your child time to copy it on to their pictures. *
Help your child find page 17 in their What the Church Believes and Teaches workbook. Read aloud the top third and invite your child to print the name of our parish on the line. Move on to the middle third. Help them understand that the pastor takes care of the people of the parish. Print the name of our priest and other priests somewhere for your child to see. Give your child time to copy the pastors' name in their book. Discuss what our pastor does for the parish. *
Show your child a picture of our Pope and tell them his name. Read about the Pope. Print his name somewhere so that your child can see it and copy it down in to their books. Encourage them to listen for the Popes name the next time that they are at Mass. Explain that we can always pray for him and the whole church at Mass. *
Pope Francis
