Nomination Form for Council Volunteer Awards
DEADLINE:  Complete and submit your nominations by the close of business on October 15, 2021.  Also by that date, email a "head and shoulders portrait" photograph of your Nominee to Chandra.Clark@scouting.org.  Please include the nominee's name in the file name of the photograph.

This Grand Canyon Council online form replaces the paper and PDF forms used in prior years.  Your submission goes straight to the awards committee for review.  First, you'll learn about and choose the award that you propose, then enter information about you, then provide information about your Nominee.  The information requested is substantial. You will have the ability to edit your submission afterward if any information needs corrections or clarification.

Nomination Instructions
This nomination is confidential.  To avoid possible disappointment, please do not advise your Nominee in any way of this action.

Requirements:

1.  A Nominee must be a registered volunteer Scouter (except for the North Star Award).  Nominees who are also professional Scouters may be considered based on volunteer service or service beyond professional employment expectations.
2.  A Nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, which may consist of a single plan or decision that contributed vitally to the lives of large numbers of youth or may consist of service to a small group over an extended period.  The Silver Beaver considers service to youth inside and outside of Scouting.
3.  Consider the Nominee's Scouting position and the corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectations of that Scouting position.
4.  Consider the Nominee's attitude toward and cooperation with the Council.
5.  Nominations for posthumous awards are not accepted.
6.  It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter for an award previously received.
7.  Please review the link above on Grand Canyon Council’s "POLICIES ABOUT TOP AWARDS" to select the proper award and an outline of the information required.
Meritorious Star
The Meritorious Service Star, created in 2016 by the Grand Canyon Council, is a council award presented in the same manner that Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils.  The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the council, district or unit level over a period of least five years.  It usually precedes the Silver Beaver and follows the District Award of Merit.  The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 40 traditional units or fraction thereof.  The council need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.
The Silver Beaver
The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 and is a national award presented by councils.  The award is available to registered Scouters 21 years of age and older who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given at the council level.  The award is available annually on the basis of 1 for each 60 units or fraction thereof.  Councils not using their full allotment in any year may accumulate the unused portion for use in any subsequent year.

The Distinguished Service Star
The Distinguished Service Star, created in 2016 by the Grand Canyon Council, is a lifetime achievement award presented in the same manner that Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils.  The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the council, district or unit level over a period of at least 15 years, and is most often awarded to Silver Beaver or Meritorious Service Star recipients who have continued to give distinguished service.  The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 250 traditional units or fraction thereof.  The council need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.
