Lake hawks are Ospreys, a very distinctive fish-hawk. They are found in abundance in Mecklenburg County. You will see their nests on high platforms around Buggs Island Lake and elsewhere throughout the region anywhere there is a body of water (ponds, lakes, rivers, etc.). Ospreys fly with a marked kink in their wings, making an M-shape when seen from below. They are tenacious fisherman, dedicated parents (working together to care for their young) and focused rebuilders (if their nest gets removed or destroyed, they simply rebuild together (male & female). As Mecklenburg Lakehawks, we represent our history and future, the beauty of our county and our tenacity, faithfulness and endurance.
