This is an input survey being sent to people who have expressed interest in being part of the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Adult & Child Book Club that will
combine reading books with global awareness, community service, and action. The SDG Book Club will be facilitated by WCSI PTO Literacy Chair, Erin Johnson and is designed to create a sense of community between WC families as we expand our world views together.
We will be meeting October - June and covering 9 or 10 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). You do NOT need to attend every month to be part of the Adult-Child SDG Book Club but the more you attend the stronger relationships we will all form and the deeper our global views and sense of service will become. The meeting location will vary, but will likely be within 1 - 2 miles of Woodcrest, possible locations include Springbrook Nature Center or Northtown Library Meeting Room.
Here are the UN SD Goals that we will for sure be focusing on due to an abundance of available books and experiential learning opportunities:
Goal #11: Sustainable Cities & Communities - (Meeting November 19th, 10 - 11:30 am, Springbrook Nature Center, Green City Design presentation and activity by naturalist)
Goal #2: Zero Hunger (Meeting December 10th, 12:30 - 1:30, Northtown Library. Learning Experience - December 17th, 9 - 10:45 am- Feed My Starving Children)
Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation (Meeting April 22nd 10 - 11:30 a.m., Tour of Fridley Water Facility and city well)
Goal #13: Climate Action
Goal #14: Life Below Water - clean oceans and water ways
Goal #15: Life on Land - endangered species, biodiversity, rainforests, and more
