Child & Adult Sustainable Development Goals Book Club - Woodcrest PTO Literacy Committee
This is an input survey being sent to people who have expressed interest in being part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Adult & Child Book Club that will combine reading books with global awareness, community service, and action. The SDG Book Club will be facilitated by WCSI PTO Literacy Chair, Erin Johnson and is designed to create a sense of community between WC families as we expand our world views together.

We will be meeting October - June and covering 9 or 10 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). You do NOT need to attend every month to be part of the Adult-Child SDG Book Club but the more you attend the stronger relationships we will all form and the deeper our global views and sense of service will become. The meeting location will vary, but will likely be within 1 - 2 miles of Woodcrest, possible locations include Springbrook Nature Center or Northtown Library Meeting Room.

Here are the UN SD Goals that we will for sure be focusing on due to an abundance of available books and experiential learning opportunities:

Goal #11: Sustainable Cities & Communities  - (Meeting November 19th, 10 - 11:30 am, Springbrook Nature Center, Green City Design presentation and activity by naturalist)

Goal #2: Zero Hunger  (Meeting December 10th, 12:30 - 1:30, Northtown Library.  Learning Experience - December 17th, 9 - 10:45 am- Feed My Starving Children)

Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation   (Meeting April 22nd 10 - 11:30 a.m., Tour of Fridley Water Facility and city well)

Goal #13: Climate Action
Goal #14: Life Below Water - clean oceans and water ways

Name of the adult or adults who would attend the club.
Names and grades of children participating. Woodcrest students age 6+ and their older siblings are welcome. Interest level of activities probably up to age 12ish or 6th/7th grade. If you would like to do the club with your 5-yr-old Kinder, just be aware they might need more assistance on projects. For those who wish to explore the topic deeper at home together, I will provide a book list each month that will include optional middle grade and picture books as well as any interesting videos or websites I may find on the month's SD Goal aside from what we read together at the meeting. You can check these out at your local library or I will include video links on my PDF.  **Younger siblings may not attend book club events due to space restrictions.
The SDG Book reading and discussion will always be FREE. Some months I will have speakers and some months there might be an opportunity to go somewhere and participate in a program created for us to match the goal which has a cost. Anything with a cost would be at a separate meeting.
Please let me know if you would be interested in coordinated group activities if they had a cost. Please select the MAXIMUM amount you would be willing to pay for a for an experiential learning opportunity. (There would likely only be 2 - 3 of these optional events scheduled during the year).
