Strengthening CommUNITY: Equity in All Policies
Each year, the New Mexico Public Health Association (NMPHA) convenes the statewide Health Policy Legislative Forum to bring together organizations and individuals involved and interested in health policy and/or advocating for specific legislative initiatives in the New Mexico Legislature. The Forum provides an opportunity to share potential and proposed legislation, to build alliances and find partners, and to learn more about the legislative process in New Mexico.

If your legislative proposal is approved by the NMPHA Policy Forum planning committee, our hope and expectation is that you will present it “in person by Zoom” in 2-3 minutes at the virtual Forum on December 3rd, 2021. This is a great opportunity to practice your “elevator speech” in front of friends and colleagues. This year our Forum will be shorter than years past to highlight our emphasis on these important health policy proposals. The event is scheduled from 9am to 3pm on Zoom, with the legislative proposals presented from about 11am-12:30pm. If you plan to present, please also plan to register for and participate fully in the 2021 Forum, which will be hosted at no charge to our public health community. Register here: http://nmpha.org/event-3991352.

Each year a booklet is published with the legislative proposals presented during the Health Policy Legislative Forum. For 2021 the booklet will be available electronically.

After the Forum, the Policy Committee will determine the level of support we are able to provide for the proposed legislation and make a recommendation to the NMPHA Board for endorsement approval.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:  Saturday, November 20, 2021 - 11:59 PM Mountain
***** GUIDELINES FOR LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS *****

Legislative proposals should be ideas for or actual proposed health policy changes (such as bills, memorials, resolutions, ordinances) or items related to local, county or state appropriations. Proposals that do not meet these guidelines will not be accepted by NMPHA’s Policy Committee. Should you have questions as to whether your proposal meets these guidelines, before submitting this form, please contact Policy Committee Co-Chairs Ellen Burgess and Stephany Strahle.

Thank you!
