Bude Creative Sector Project - Initial Survey.
Your help is needed!

Could you spare a few minutes to answer a few questions please?  Bude Coastal Community Team (BCCT) through its Bude Business Voice (BBV) project is trying to find out what interest there is to generate a collaborative approach to business development among businesses in the local Creative economy.

Some things to know before you continue:

1. Businesses that make up the UK’s Creative Sector are a vital component of the national economy – employing millions of people, accounting for 25% of all businesses, and growing at a faster growth rate than other sectors.
2. The economic consequences of Covid-19 are huge – and it’s likely that there will be continue to be significant changes in the way we work.
3. HM Government via DCMS (Dept for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) aims to generate growth in this sector and a guidance document was published by the Local Government Association (LGA). https://local.gov.uk/creative-places-supporting-your-local-creative-economy
4. This initiative is being supported by Cornwall Council with their ‘Creative Manifesto', a 5-year strategy planned to be released later this year.
5. The focus of this Manifesto includes four ‘Ambitions’ – Community-based; New ways of working; Be sustainable and inclusive; To grow new talent.

Local Impact.

1. Bude already has a good reputation as a popular holiday resort.  More recently, Bude has demonstrated a commitment to managing climate change, as evidenced by the recent £200,000 development grant to advance this.
2. BCCT is aiming to be geared up and ready to go when this Manifesto is published.  Could Bude become the ‘go to’ place for a wide range of services and expertise in the creative industries?
3. A key step in the LGA document is to map the creative economy in the local area.  This could lead to setting up a directory of all businesses in the creative businesses in the Bude area – something akin to Bude’s own yellow pages for creatives.
4. BCCT is already running the Bude Business Voice project – and in the longer term, when hopefully a degree of ‘normal’ working has returned, our aim is to explore the development of a community business hub, open to all.

This survey – of a small sample of businesses in the local creative sector - seeks to find out whether there is support for this initiative.
