Join the Jewish Artists Initiative (JAI) for a virtual studio visit and conversation about art with member Stuart Perlman. We will learn about Perlman's 12-year-long The “Faces of Homelessness” portrait project and how he seeks to illuminate the plight of those living and dying on the streets.

Stuart Perlman, Ph.D. has been a psychologist and psychoanalyst for over 40 years. In addition, Stuart has painted and interviewed 240 homeless individuals, illuminating their humanity. Fine Art Connoisseur magazine calls these portraits, “Great Art Worldwide.” This project has been covered internationally, including Los Angeles Times and Guardian of London, and seen in 60 exhibitions. The National Association for Advancement of Psychoanalysis awarded his documentary Struggle in Paradise, based on this project, “Best Movie.” Stuart was LACPA’s “Social Justice Award” winner and was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Many portraits are in his new book, Open Your Heart Through Art: Painting Human Souls and Their Stories.
