Are you familiar with Sheikh Suleiman Al-Kritli and his tales? 'Experience the rich heritage of Bayt al-Kretliya on our guided tour, where we will uncover its intriguing past.' Moreover, we will discover how English officer Gayer Anderson utilized the space as a displaying area for his possessions, eventually transforming it into a renowned museum in al-Khalifa neighbourhood.
During the tour, we will have the opportunity to view Anderson's diverse collection of collectables from around the world, and the inspiring tales of Sheikh Suleiman al-Kritli will guide us in creating distinct wooden pieces during the workshop time.
The tour will conclude with a workshop on learning the wood veneer technique, as woodworking is one of the traditional crafts associated with the Khalifa neighbourhood.
Our trip will start at Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque which will lead us to our main stop, the Gayer Anderson Museum (Bayt al-Kretliya). Our itinerary includes stops at the Ahmad Kuhia Mosque and Darb al-Husr Playground, where we will introduced to artistic projects whose designs were inspired by the Athar Lina Initiative from the legends of Bayt al-Kretliya.
The tour ends inside the "Heritage Works" workspace, where participants will learn the basics of wood veneer craft. During the workshop, every attendee will have the opportunity to create their own coaster.
This event is a part of al-Khalifa Tours program run by the Built Environment Collective, and all proceeds allocated will support the sustainability of the initiative's educational and community programs in al-Khalifa neighbourhood.
