LPA Advocacy Program Mentee Interest Form
College is a fun time. It is the next great chapter of your life!

It can also be a tough transition, to venture into the unknown of university life.

What if we told you that we had people who were in your shoes not too long ago, who can provide you with what you need to make that transition as smooth as possible?

LPA's Advocacy Committee has created this mentorship program to equip current college/university students in the dwarfism community with the resources necessary to navigate the rest of their post-secondary experience, by connecting them with a little person who has graduated college and who can provide advice to set the mentee up for continued college success.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please fill out the form below. We are so excited to hear from you and embark on this journey together!

For any questions, please reach out to advocacy@lpaonline.org.

The program will be for 8 months (December 2023 - July 2024). For some modules, we will be bringing in a guest speaker for a 1-hour presentation + Q&A session on that month's topic. We expect that the mentor and mentee will meet for at least 1 additional hour to discuss that month's topic one-on-one. A breakdown of the program is as follows:

Module 1, December: Getting a Mentor

- We will be holding a virtual matchmaking event to pair you to your mentee

- Mentor and mentee will figure out a meeting cadence for each month

- We will be providing some fun icebreaker questions you can use to get to know one another better!

Module 2, January: Resolution-Essay Workshop

- What are your goals? What do you want to accomplish in this program, in college, and in your career?

- We're going to do some fun brainstorming activities to get those creative juices flowing and help you set those long-term goals and stick to them, with the help of your mentor.

Module 3, February: Applying to Scholarships

- We will have a guest speaker present on best practices in applying to college scholarships

- Optional: set up an additional one-on-one meeting between you and your mentor to discuss a topic of your choice (about scholarships or something else)

Module 4, March: Learning LinkedIn

- We will show you how to set up a LinkedIn profile by highlighting your accomplishments and expanding on your resume

- We will be bringing in a guest speaker to present on best practices, and you will work with your mentor to create an AMAZING profile

Module 5, April: A Realistic Perspective on College

- We will be hosting a panel of recent college graduates to answer your questions and provide their perspective about what college is like (i.e. joining extracurricular activities, Accessibility and Disability Services, safety on campus, mental health resources, organizing your schedule ahead of time)

- Optional: set up an additional one-on-one meeting between you and your mentor to discuss a topic of your choice

Module 6, May: Exploring Majors

- We will be bringing in a guest speaker to introduce personality assessments so you can explore your career interests!

- You will complete the personality assessment before the module group meeting and you will have the chance to discuss your results one-on-one with your mentor

Module 7, June: Networking

- How do you reach out to a professional? How do you learn about their career path and how they got to where they are now?

- We'll teach you some best practices to build your network and find professionals in your industry of interest, both virtually and in-person.

Module 8, July: Meeting your Mentor/Mentee

- We will be hosting an optional networking event at the 2024 National Conference in Baltimore, MD for mentors and mentees to meet one another in person

- This is also an opportunity for the next cohort to learn about the mentorship program for the following year. We would love it if you would be open to discussing your experience!

Knowing what our expectations are, what does your time commitment look like (per month) for this program?
