ESWP 2022-2023 Splashball Winter Season Registration
What is Splashball?
Splashball is an excellent segway into learning teamwork and sportsmanship as well as developing important swimming skills. Just like Baseball programs have T-Ball, our equivalent to that type of programming is Splashball.
The 2022-2023 Winter Season is hosted in partnership with Evanston High School. The first winter practice is on Sunday, December 11th and the final practice for the season is on Sunday, March 3rd.

WHY PLAY SPLASHBALL?

FUN! – Splash Ball is FUN; participants, coaches, referees and parents alike will have a blast with our program!!!
Friendships – Athletes will make new friends and learn to work together.
Sportsmanship –Team sports build respect amongst teammates and opponent.
Leadership –Through team sports, leadership qualities and traits are developed.
Teamwork– Splash Ball provides a foundation to teach participants that working together towards a common goal can lead to positive outcomes, win, lose or draw
Water Safety – Learning to swim through Splash Ball will enhance a participant’s ability to tread water, and improve their confidence in the water all while learning fundamental swimming strokes and techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions -

What skills should I expect my child to learn?
Each player will learn vital swimming skills and will learn head down and head up style freestyle, how to tread water and stay afloat in the water while holding, passing and shooting a ball. Other skills they will learn will be:
Water Polo Lunging and Blocking
Non contact Water Polo Defense and strategy
Water Polo Offensive movements and strategies
Shooting, Passing and Goal Keeping
Rules and Regulations of Water Polo and SplashBall

Does my child have to swim unassisted the entire time?
For Splashball age 6-8, they are allowed to jump off the bottom and use flotation devices to assist them staying afloat during practice and games. Our Goal is teach vital swim skills so that the kids don’t require the assistance, however it is not a requirement of the official game. For U14 and HS level, all swimmers are required to swim unassisted for the entire time.

What are the Rules of Splashball? Is it as physical as Water Polo?
All the Rules of Splashball are located on the USA Water Polo website (usawaterpolo.org/splashball) and are similar to Water Polo except for the physical contact. Splashball is an introductory level to Water Polo and the game is meant to be non contact. However, the players will learn how to steal and block in a manner that does not require traditional water polo contact.

What if I can’t make all the practice sessions?
All practices are not mandatory. We encourage members to attend as often as their schedule allows.
