SCAA Archives 101: Archival Practice for Indigenous Organizations

Workshop Objectives:
  • To discuss caring for archives, records and cultural knowledge
  • To provide training on archival techniques and practices
  • To answer questions about how to best care for and preserve knowledge and wisdom which is stored on different media (paper, cassette, CD, DVD, film and born-digital)
  • To provide information about resources and support for digitization initiatives
  • To discuss solutions for safe-guarding and providing access to local and community cultural heritage
Format:

This workshop will be offered virtually via Zoom video-conference. Details will be provided a few days prior to workshop.

Target Audience:

The 2-day workshop was for Tribal/First Nations Government administrators, Archivists, Indigenous community members or cultural memory keepers, students, and anyone working in the field of archival or heritage practice. The focus of the workshop was on practical knowledge and skills that participants will be able to utilize.

Instructor:

Lisa Glandt has been the Education and Advisory Services (EAS) Coordinator for the Archives Association of British Columbia (AABC) since 2015. In this role she delivers custom archival training, workshops and webinars; teaches distance education courses; consults during site visits; and provides support and guidance to archival organizations and archivists throughout the province. Over the last 24 years she has worked in a wide variety of archival and records management settings including museums, municipal government, academic (both university and private) and community archives. Lisa holds an undergraduate degree in History from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Archival Studies from UBC (MAS, 2001).
