Youth@SAIIA formally invites high schools to register in the The UN General Assembly (UNGA) mini-MUN series taking place across four provinces during the month of April. These events will take place in-person and will be limited to a maximum of 15 teams at each event. Social distancing and COVID 19 safety protocols will be observed at all times.
ABOUT MUN
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations. Participants are assigned topics within a particular body or agency and a country to represent. Participating in teams of 2-3 members, participants become 'delegates' of their assigned country, and must research the topic from their country's perspective, write policy briefings and then engage in the debate and negotiation process whilst representing their countries. While keeping in line with their country’s stance, the ultimate goal for each session of UN is for delegates to work together to create a resolution to the issue being discussed.
THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY
FIRST COMMITTEE: Disarmament and International Security
TOPIC: The Effect and Use of Nuclear or Military Weapons on International Peace and the Humanitarian Crisis Amidst the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. Delegates of this session are tasked with addressing the current humanitarian crisis and impact of military and nuclear proliferation on the economic, cultural, health, environmental, and educational sectors of their respective countries.
