Loiter Galleries Visual Artist Residency 

Studio & Exhibition Space: Downtown LA
Space in the Gap in partnership with Loiter Galleries  is currently looking for artists to exhibit and create work in  Downtown Los Angeles for a three month self-directed artist residency.

This space should be used primarily as a gallery space with open hours to the public. The artist(s) must commit to opening during Art Night , 5-9pm the first Thursday of the month and during the Downtown LA Art walk, the 2nd Thursday of the month.The space can be used as a studio space 24/7. 

Dates: July 7th- September 15th

There is no fee to apply.  We accept donations of any amount if you would like to make a small gift ( loiter info).

Application closes on June 30th:  You will be contacted if you are being considered for the space for a brief interview. Once selected the suggested donation is $250 a month for this  unfunded version of our residency program.  This is to cover costs of making the space available. Proceeds will fund this location and additional locations. No parking spaces are provided. Please take this into consideration before you apply.

This call is open to artists across Southern California. Special consideration will be given to Long Beach based artists and organizations.

Who can Apply?

Individual artists, collaborative teams, collectives, art organizations, local galleries.                                                                                                                                                                                               

What You Should Know Before Applying:

Any work visible from the street (through windows, etc.) must be appropriate for all ages.

Space Amenities: ADA accessibility, windows, natural light, wall space, slop sink.  Restroom is in the building, not at the location. No parking is provided.  

Prohibited Materials and Processes: Some materials and processes are not suited to our spaces. Please see (this document) for a list of prohibited materials and processes; this list is subject to change, with warning.

Security Deposit: Venues require a refundable $300 for the use of the space. Extra deposits may be necessary depending on the artist's plan to decorate/modify the space.

Logistics: Exhibitors are fully responsible for the installation and deinstallation and for setting up any technical equipment or displays. We do not provide art transportation, hanging materials or tools. (You can always ask, we may be able to provide it). 

Studio is public-facing. Please keep that in mind when you leave the space each day. 

Our locations are not live-work spaces. 

Exhibitors are responsible for leaving the space in the same condition that they received it in, or better.

Artists and exhibitors keep 100% of any work sold in the space. (Please consider making an additional donation to support additional spaces.  We ask so we can provide additional spaces at lower cost).
