Got a young teen artist who loves anime, cartooning or creativity in general? Then sign them up for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to express themselves under the guidance of a famous author and illustrator. R. Gregory Christie is hosting an arts-based program on identity and entrepreneurship developed especially for Rutherfordton teens. Mr. Christie is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and lecturer with a long track record of creating inspiring art. His animated films have been showcased on Netflix and HBO kids and he has illustrated more than 60 books for young readers that are available in local schools and libraries. He is an NAACP Image award winner and was the artist for the United Postal Service's “Kwanzaa Stamp” in 2013. Some of his past clients include Chris Rock, Karyn Parsons, Regina King, and folk singer Pete Seeger. In this program, he will share his journey as an artist and entrepreneur, while guiding teens in an art project designed to help them find and express their identity. Participants will receive a signed book by Mr. Christie and a beginner illustrator art kit.
This program is recommended for high school students ages 14-18. 20 seats available, registration required. Participants will be required to wear masks in the library as per Rutherfordton town policy.
