Help Bath Thrive: Drive 25 - Letter of Support
We, the undersigned, would like the City of Bath to take decisive action to make our streets safer for everyone, especially the vulnerable users of the road, including people biking, walking, running, and using wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

The facts: The likelihood of a pedestrian dying in a collision with a car increases with every mile per hour (mph) faster the car travels. According to the National Traffic Safety Board (2017 Report) at 20 mph there is a 5% chance of death, but at 30 mph it increases to 45%, and 40 mph means an 85% chance of death.

While many of Bath's roads are posted at 25 mph, it's often the case that people drive their cars and trucks in excess of that speed limit which puts the vulnerable users of the road at an increased risk of injury or death. It is time for this to change.

In support of this effort:

➤ I will do my part to drive at or below the posted speed limit helping to protect all road users, especially the most vulnerable.

➤  I would like the City of Bath and the Maine Department of Transportation to design, build, or update roadways with narrower travel lanes, raised crosswalks, bike lanes, wider sidewalks and other similar features that make it less comfortable for drivers to exceed the speed limit and that encourage people to use alternate forms of transportation.

Together we can make the streets of Bath a public resource that meets the needs of all residents, visitors, and businesses and that helps Bath thrive.

Sincerely,
