Herring Island exhibition 2021
The pandemic has changed our mode of exhibiting and we need to decide how to adapt in 2021 given that early in the year we will still be restricted in how visitors are managed. Exhibition dates for 2021 are the weekends of 16,17 - 23,24 - 30,31 January and 6,7 February plus 26 January. It is proposed to run the online exhibition for two weeks longer than the physical exhibition. Note that this show is for small, indoor works.

Images
In the past our major exhibitions have been recorded by a professional photographer in the days after set up. Herring Island, because it shows fewer sculptures has been photographed by the coordinator in the days after opening weekend. For MIFGS 2020 online, images, movies and sound files were supplied by the sculptors themselves with variable but mainly good results. If we use a professional photographer (at setup) for the Herring island exhibition we can have images supplied faster and better. Plus sculptors would acquire some extra skills by assisting in the photography sessions. This system would enable the online exhibition to launch at the same time as the physical exhibition and serve a greater number of people. However due to the small number of works compared to our Annual Exhibition or MIFGS the cost per sculpture would be greater - entry fees would be $45 per sculpture rather than $25.

Duration of the exhibition
The usual format for Herring Island is to have 40+ sculptures shown for 4 weekends. We have early drop off before Christmas to allow for sculptors who can't be around for set up in the second week of January. 2021 gives us the opportunity to look at the show afresh: do we want to have one exhibition of 40 works or several exhibitions - each of 30 - 40 works setting up on the Friday and dismantling on the Sunday and Monday each weekend? We can even regard the physical exhibition as a series of photoshoots supporting the online exhibition. If we went for multiple shows we could have up to 5 works per sculptor.
