Newcomer Youth Referral Application
Please be advised that we are experiencing longer than usual wait times due to a shortage of volunteer youth mentors and staff. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Please do your best to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information as possible.

WHO SHOULD COMPLETE THIS FORM?
Parents/guardians or a worker from an organization currently involved with the newcomer youth (e.g. health practitioner, school board, etc).

NEWCOMER YOUTH CRITERIA (all of the following requirements must be met):
- not a Canadian citizen
- living in Canada for 10 years or less
- must have a valid immigration/ UCI #
- between the ages of 6 and 18.

THE MATCHING PROCESS:
The match with a volunteer is based upon gender, common interests, compatibility and location / proximity to one another. Youth Assisting Youth strives to promote diversity. We ask your cooperation in adhering to our Access & Equity Policy (which can be obtained upon request).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Our ability to match a child with a volunteer mentor is based on the specific needs and level of difficulty of the child, as well as the availability of a volunteer in their local community. As a result, we cannot guarantee a one-to-one mentor for all applicants. A child’s application may be declined during the pre screening process based on their specific needs and difficulty level; and some applications may be closed if we’re unable to find a suitable volunteer mentor for the child after 6 months. We will work very hard to support and match every child enrolled in our program with a volunteer mentor. But we ask you to please keep these important factors in mind as we work through the enrollment and matching process.

Please be advised:
  • We are currently accepting Self-referrals from Newcomer Parents and Guardians due to COVID-19;
  • We are now accepting applications and referrals for Newcomer youth mentees, ages 16 to 18, for our IRCC 16 to 18 Pilot Project. Youth mentees receive 1:1 mentoring and skills development workshops to help them pursue their social, educational and career goals, as well as cultural transition;
