This free workgroup will give participants the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues from other schools in a school-to-school support model with the aim for long-term links to be made with like-minded colleagues in the area.
Participants should gain
■ Support with planning Core Maths lessons
■ Advice on how to improve the motivation of Core Maths students
■ Ways to improve awareness of Core Maths in pre-GCSE pupils and hence take up.
■ Opportunities to share experiences and findings, and to observe Core Maths lessons.
Programme
■ Session 1 - whole day training event with Tom Rainbow AMSP on how to design and subsequently deliver Core Maths lessons that develop the student’s thinking, problem solving, confidence, evaluative and interpretive skills whilst piquing curiosity and deepening contextual understanding.
When: 14 November 2019 from 10.30-2.30 at Devonport High School for Boys, Plymouth
 
■ Session 2 - half day:
When: 13 February 2020, venue tbc

■ Session 3 – half day:
 When 30 June 2020, venue tbc

Participants in this workgroup will be able to:
■ visit other schools and observe Core Maths lessons – cover and travel provided by project funding.
■ work on a gap task between sessions, sharing their experiences and materials created.
■ gain help in promoting Core Maths to year 10/11 pupils
