Mock Appeal is a free, interactive after-school program for middle schoolers interested in civics and the legal field. Students meet with a team of legal mentors once a week for 90 minutes to examine the Bill of Rights, learn about the judicial system and appeals process and analyze and build legal arguments. This spring, our legal mentors are from Choate Hall & Stewart LLP. After eleven weeks, students transform into appellate attorneys and present their oral arguments to a panel of real judges and attorneys.
By participating in the Mock Trial Program, students gain an understanding of the justice system, discovering career opportunities in the legal field, and develop their critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills. By overcoming fear of public speaking, students acquire self-confidence by engaging in the adversarial process.
Please note that participants are expected to attend EVERY SESSION unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Permission Form will be required for all participants at a later date. A parent/guardian should be on the look out for a permission form by email.
