Welcome. This is where you can express your interest in becoming a beta reader for Isobel Lynx. Filling out this form does not obligate you to do anything. I will contact you when the beta reads open for a specific book and you can decide then if you'd like to participate.
What is a beta reader?
A beta reader is someone who gets to read an unpublished book manuscript in order to provide the author with feedback. This allows the author to address concerns before making the book widely available.
What type of feedback is expected of a beta reader?
You'll be provided access to a Google Doc with the book's manuscript where you can read the story and make your comments. Read it as if it were just any book. You're not expected to be an editor or a spellchecker (though if something stands out to you, feel free to point it out). At the beginning or ending of each book, I will specify what type of feedback I'm looking for, but you may add additional comments if you wish.
Examples of the types of feedback expected of beta readers:
- Which is your favorite character?
- What was your favorite scene or moment?
- When did you start caring about what happens next?
- Do you have questions after you've read it?
What does a beta reader get for it?
You get to read the book for free. You get the cool points for being the first to read it. And you get the opportunity to voice your opinion and be heard by the author. Perhaps you'll point out something that could have offended someone or was inaccurate.
In addition, I will happily give you a shoutout and a big thanks on social media and my blog if you'd like.
