In case you don't already know, our vision (and passion!) is to enrich the local community by making handmade brands household names.

Who are we looking for you ask? Local makers and artisans who make cool stuff, care about quality and have some awesome social media content.

----- B A C K S T O R Y  -----

In 2014, Founder Cheryl Wilson, a maker herself, despised porch pickups. Aside from the obvious privacy and security concerns, was the glaring lack of customer service. A cold bag, alone on a porch, no smiles, no heartfelt gratitude.

A stereotypical entrepreneur, Cheryl knew there had to be a solution. An innovative idea was born - a centralized pickup service. Then the planning started. In 2017 The Maker’s Hub opened its doors. It was the first of its kind and ahead of its time.

Cheryl, brings years of retail experience from Canadian retailers; Jacob, Dynamite and Jean Machine. As well, she ran her own successful handmade business, Personally Papered, in Durham Region for 5 years. Cheryl has worked in customer service for over 25 years and takes pride in delivering a great customer experience.

Our online boutique opened in 2019 to great success and in 2020 we expanded our virtual marketplace to include our FB shopping group 'The Maker's Hub of Durham - Shopping Group'. Which now includes over 5700+ members.

In 2020, we opened our retail boutique at 1380 Hopkins St. in Whitby and won first place in the Reader's Choice Awards for 'Best Boutique', 'Best Online Boutique', and 'Best Distribution'. This was extra special for us, as it was voted on by the people of Durham. We will be working hard in 2021 to honour our status of #1.


----- P R I C I N G -----

Rent
$30-$150/month +hst

Rent pricing depends on display type and size. TMH will include suitable display types in our offer email. Displays are based on product types and our display availability.

Commission
12% +$0.30/transaction fee

Stock storage (optional): Starting at $15/month

Optional stock storage on site is a great way to keep your display restocked and limit the need to visit weekly for replenishments.

Service fees are not charged to the customer at checkout. We ask you to build that into the cost of doing business.

----- R E Q U I R E M E N T S -----

To be considered, products must have a creative, handmade element to their process.

Canadian-made only - to be ‘Canadian-made’ the final product must be finished/altered/completed and packaged in Canada.

Quality is top importance.

You must have a personal FB to join our group.

TERM: Vendors are committed to a 1-3 month term to start, with possible option to renew monthly based on (but not limited to); sales, market trends, applicant pool, customer demand, seasonal demand, and/or The Maker's Hub's discretion. The retail term length will be included in our offer. Extensions may be available.

***Food vendors must work in a Dinesafe approved kitchen, hold a current Food Handlers permit and business insurance.***

***Bath & Body vendors are required to have business insurance and industry compliant labeling.***


---- V A L U E -----

TMH provides you with a seller's dashboard. This dashboard syncs with our point of sale, allowing you to be notified of sales real-time, receive sales stats, manage stock and more.

TMH provides detailed monthly sales reports.

Payouts are made monthly by direct deposit.

Security deposits are NOT required.

Visual merchandising and restocking are provided.

Local pickup service included. ADT security and cameras on site.

We promote and drive traffic to the website through our social media channels (FB/IG), as well as in our retail store. Feel free to check out @themakershubofdurham to browse our feeds.


----- S U P P O R T -----

We support our makers by providing opportunities, connections and betterment.

We do this is through our services like; Live Shopping Shows, private FB Vendor group, knowledge sharing, transparency, video tutorials, Zoom Maker-Meetups, and more.

We care for your products as if they were our own. We do this with ongoing daily tidying, merchandising and restocking.


----- R E G I O N -----

The Maker's Hub's retail store is located in Whitby, Ontario.

This application is open to vendors within driving distance of our store.


----- BREAKDOWN FEES AND COMMISSION -----

Monthly fees include (but not limited to); space rental, seller dashboard, product promotion, refreshing & merchandising display, shopping experience & customer service, wages, utilities

12% commission includes (but not limited to); customer retention and relations, processing/merchant fees, packaging, deposit fees, wages, reports

- $0.30 is charged for each order #
