Through the Digital Natives program, a University of Georgia journalism student with digital news expertise (plus training through our program) will spend one week with a Georgia news organization's newsroom to help its staff accomplish a specific digital goal, such as launching a social media account or email newsletter, creating digital content or experimenting with new technologies, or skills like audience engagement, disinformation savvy, and Trusting News concepts.
Students selected to participate in Digital Natives will receive a $1,000 stipend thanks to a generous gift from Richard T. and Debbie H. Griffiths. Also, transportation, a hotel stay, and food costs will be covered for the week on-site with the community news organization. Digital Natives is part of the Journalism Innovation Lab in the Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management & Leadership.
See the digital flier below for more details. You can contact Dr. Amanda Bright, Digital Natives director, at
amanda.bright@uga.edu with any questions.
If you are interested, please fill out this application by Nov. 10, 2023. We plan to select the 10-15 participating students by mid-November and hold training on Dec. 5, 2023 in preparation for the Jan. 2-5, 2024 program on site with the local newsrooms.
