This production of The Phantom Tollbooth is expected to include both adults and children in the cast and production staff. For children under the age of 10 to participate in the show, we request that a parent or designated responsible adult be present at all rehearsals and at the performances. (By arrangement, one adult could be responsible for several children. The responsible adult can be in the show.) Older children may be left at rehearsal, but must be picked up at the end of rehearsals, or must have permission to leave on their own. Some rehearsals will end early, so the children should have a way of getting home. The Greenbelt Arts Center, the City of Greenbelt and the individuals involved in the show will not take responsibility for the children involved in the show. Rehearsals will take place at the Greenbelt Arts Center or nearby. During some rehearsals, we will be sharing the space with the rehearsals of other shows. It is possible that children in the cast of The Phantom Tollbooth may be exposed to material from those plays, including language and material that may not be suitable for all ages. Most rehearsals will start and stop at the announced time, or may end early. However, when we get to full runs and dress rehearsals, the rehearsals will end when the run is complete and may go later than the announced time. Rehearsals and performances will involve some waiting time while some actors are not on stage. Children should be prepared to wait patiently and should have a book or (quiet) electronic device to pass the time. There is no fee for participating in the show, but people in the cast are encouraged to join the Greenbelt Arts Center as an individual member or participate in a family membership. Individual memberships cost $20 and include one free ticket to any GAC show (including The Phantom Tollbooth.) A family membership costs $40 and includes two free tickets. In addition, memberships entitle you to a 50% discount for the opening performance of any GAC show. There will not be comp tickets provided; everyone watching the show must purchase a ticket. Members of the cast may be asked to purchase or supply stage makeup at their own expense; a personal makeup kit costs about $20. We will tell you what to get and how to get it. We might also ask you to provide part of your costume, such as a shirt, pants, shoes, a leotard, leggings, etc. The provided costume item might be dyed or altered by our costume crew. According to GAC and City of Greenbelt policy, the Director and Assistant Director have had background checks by the City of Greenbelt in order to be cleared for volunteer work with children. In addition, the Stage Manager is an employee of the City of Greenbelt Recreation Department and has been cleared to work with children. No one else will be left alone with minors under age 18. Do you agree? (This question should be answered by the parent.) *
