Self-funding: Register for the 2023 SouthernDefenders HRDs Summit.
The Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (SouthernDefenders), in partnership with the
United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office for Southern Africa
(OHCHR ROSA) will host the 2023 Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Summit from 22-24
November 2023 in Windhoek, Namibia. The summit will bring together human rights defenders (HRDs),
civil society organisations (CSOs), grassroots movements and representatives of National Human Rights
Institutions from Southern Africa to take stock of the situation/developments and in particular the
challenges and risks HRDs face in the face of shrinking civic space in the region.

The theme for this year's summit, Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights (UDHR): Enhancing the Capacity and Resilience of Human Rights Defenders to Protect Civic Space and Advance Freedom, Equality, and Justice in Southern Africa, is fitting as we mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR by the United Nations General Assembly.
