Caltech Y Make-A-Difference Day
Saturday | April 12th | One-Day, Many-Ways to Serve the Community

Join students, and others, around campus for one day of service in the local Pasadena / Los Angeles area. Learn something new about our community and some of the agencies doing good work, all while making a tangible difference.

All members of the Caltech community are invited to volunteer in service projects organized by students through the Caltech Y and local agencies. Projects are led by students and range from 3 to 6 hours (including travel) depending on the project. Meals, transportation, Caltech Y t-shirts (for those who haven't claimed one this year), and hats are provided thanks to funding from TIAA and the Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union.  The UG House with the most volunteers is also eligible to claim $150 toward Ditch Day or other House events thanks to ASCIT.

PROJECT PREFERENCES

Most projects fit more than one preference areas (see descriptions below), so you are likely to be doing something of interest, but we will try to get as close as we can to your preferences.  Please rank your top 3 choices in order of preferences.
Project Descriptions
Visitation: Join in a conversation on current events, play games, or just spend some time with others. Visiting the elderly and/or disabled in an assisted living residence is a great way to brighten the day of some of our campus neighbors.

General Labor: Improve the facilities of a local home or community center by helping paint, repair, renovate, or do yard work. No specific skills necessary, just a willingness to get down and dirty on some good honest work.

Children's Games, Crafts, & Education: Visit with children, help them build small craft projects, read to them, tutor or participate in games and competitions with them. Fun for the kids and a great time for students.

With or Around Animals: Help clean up the facilities, possibly interact with animals, or do projects for local service agencies that work with animals.

Outdoor/Environmental: Join our team to work in the environment, plant trees, remove non-native vegetation, maintain trails, or do projects in our local environment.
