Guilford Town Meeting is traditionally held on the first Tuesday in March at 10am. Is this the best day and time for the voters of Guilford?
Roughly 10% of Guilford's registered voters participated in town meeting on March 7, 2023 and about 30% of registered voters cast ballots. Would more people participate if town meeting was held at a different time?
Vermont towns may hold town meeting on any of the three days immediately preceding the first Tuesday in March. If the people of Guilford wish, we can vote to change when we hold town meeting. Our next opportunity to vote would be on the first Tuesday in March 2024 to make a change for town meeting 2025. This gives us plenty of time to discuss this matter and come to a clear decision.
No matter when we hold town meeting, printed ballot voting would still happen on the first Tuesday of March.
Let's begin a town wide discussion about whether or not it would be helpful to change town meeting day. Think about it, talk with your neighbors, and answer the questions below. I'll collect all the answers and share them during the community comment section of a selectboard meeting and on the town facebook page.
Thanks for taking the time to think about this issue!
