Footprint Blueprints - Test Knit

Thanks for your interest in test knitting! Jump in to the basics of sock knitting with these classic toe-up socks — in 5 sizes and 4 yarn weights! The pattern is designed to use the Magic Loop method (my favourite!) and features German Short Row Heels for a speedy, slick heel. I like to keep my test knits fun and stress-free, and I appreciate check-ins if things aren't going well or you need extra accommodations. I value the feedback from new test knitters and newish knitters alike, so please feel welcome to apply (this is an intermediate pattern!).

Testing is filling up, but we are still actively looking for testers in:

Fingering - XS, XL
DK - XS, XL
Worsted - XL
Bulky - S, XL

TESTING DETAILS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Test knit will run from February 5th to March 15th 2024
  • knit at least 1 sock (obviously, a pair is ideal for photos and, of course, wearing ;) !)
  • photo of the completed sock
  • report problems/errors along the way
  • complete the feedback survey at the end
  • willingness to use Google Doc's or PDFs 
  • permission to share your photos to celebrate the socks digitally!
You'll receive a copy of the pattern upon completing the test knit!

The pattern will be available in a Google Doc format, where you'll be invited to suggest 'edits' to the pattern, in addition to a printable PDF version. I find this an excellent way to collaborate on the process!

SIZES (circumference of the ball of foot): Extra Small 6.5” (16.5 cm) / Small 7.5” (19 cm) /Medium 8.5” (21.5 cm) / Large 9.5” (24 cm) / Extra Large 10.5” (26.5 cm)

NOTIONS: 3 stitch markers, darning needle, measuring tape

  • NEEDLES: US 1 - 2.25 mm, 40” (100 cm) cable

  • DK
  • YARN: 1/2/2/2 skeins DK weight yarn

  • GAUGE: 26 stitches, 36 rows = 4” (10 cm)
  • NEEDLES: US 2.5 - 3 mm, 40” (100 cm) cable

  • Worsted
  • YARN: 1/1/2/2 skeins Worsted weight yarn 
  • Recommendations: Berroco Vintage, Diamond Traditions 
  • GAUGE : 22 stitches, 32 rows = 4” (10 cm)
  • NEEDLES : US 4 - 3.5 mm, 40” (100 cm) cable
  • Bulky
  • YARN: 2 skeins of Bulky Yarn
