Middle and high-school instrumentalists and vocalists are invited to apply for the Betty Coale Young Musician Scholarship. Selected students will be featured soloists at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Mobile during select summer services in July and August (1-2 services will be assigned per recipient) and the culminating service and reception on August 18th. Recipients will receive a $400 scholarship towards their music education at the Sunday morning reception on August 18th.In addition, a Young Organist Award is available to an outstanding middle or high-school organist who demonstrates excellence in solo playing and hymnody in the amount of $900. This organist will have the opportunity to play the Cathedral Organ on August 18th and may be invited to be a part of future educational programming at Christ Church.
Musical theatre singers may submit a musical theatre selection, but will be asked to participate in callbacks with a hymn arrangement of the Director of Music’s choice and must understand that a sacred song is required for their performance at Christ Church. There are no other repertoire or genre requirements.
Students may audition by submitting 1-2 selections via video attachment/YouTube link or select an in-person audition date.
Past winners may apply and will be given consideration in the second round of application reviews. All recipients are expected to attend 1-2 rehearsals outside of Sundays at Christ Church Cathedral, scheduled collaboratively.
