From July - November 2019,  ART School Taupo will be hosting a string of workshops tutored by very talented traveling artists from all over the North island.  Artists include Taranaki watercolourist, Joni Murphy, Hawkes Bay encaustic wax Artist, Mary Sullivan, Te Awamutu Visual Māori contemporary Artist, Oriwa Morgan-Ward, Tauranga Pewter Artist, Ninette Kruger, Feilding mixed media Artist, Lyn Pollock and Auckland master oil painter, Paul Coney.

So why not try something new this year and learn a new art medium from one of our amazing tutors.
All classes are suitable for beginner adults and teens.  Most workshops include materials.

In This Workshop You'll Learn:
In this detailed, hands-on workshop, you will learn:
- How to transfer your design on to metal
- The basic metal embossing techniques of low relief, high relief ,engraving, and using stencils
- How to fill your raised design with wax
- How to add patina to your design to create depth and interest
- How to set stones and embellishments in metal
- How to apply your artwork to canvas

You will take home your completed canvas with 4 design blocks of your choice
Workshop is open to adults and teens with minimum age for workshop at 12 years.

In This Workshop You'll Learn:
Would you like to learn how to create your own drawings of quirky, whimsical houses?

This workshop is perfect for people looking to to explore illustration and mixed media.
During this fun mixed media workshop you’ll learn how to draw your own whimsical homes  using a variety of doodling techniques and experiment with different forms of media.

Explore mixed media:  we'll be incorporating a range of dyes, food colouring, sea sponges, pens and more to complete our pictures.

Doodling Techniques: Learn how to draw simple facial expressions, drawing cats, dogs, a bat, a dragon, a friendly bug, a frog, a whimsical gnome and more.

ALL materials included.  
BYO lunch and  an A4 clear folder for your artwork and handouts.

Open to adults and teens with minimum age limit set at 10yrs.

In This Workshop You'll Learn:
In this beginner level metal embossing workshop, you will learn:
How to transfer your design onto copper/aluminum metal sheet
The basic metal embossing techniques of low relief, high relief and engraving
How to fill your raised design with wax
How to add patina to your design to create depth and interest
How to cut out your raised copper design with a craft knife
How to apply your artwork to canvas

You will take home your completed, handcrafted copper /metal Mandala on canvas Bring a friend or loved one and enjoy a day of creative fun with us!

In This Workshop You'll Learn:
Spend a day oil painting with the master!  Paul Coney, a well known New Zealand and internationally acclaimed artist will be heading to Taupo in November to teach a one day workshop in oil painting for beginners.
With 40+ year experience, 'his work is considered to be amongst the world's best. Paul does for flowers what Raymond Ching does for birds' reference Shiley Segedin Nov 1994 NZ Gardener Magazine.

Workshop covers:
Thought process and approach to oil painting
Colour mixing
Importance of Tonal values
Perspective
Scene choice
Importance of light and shadow in a painting

Paul Coney began his painting career professionally at twenty years of age and is entirely self taught. His career thus far has spanned over 40 years his mediums are watercolours and large scale oils on canvas. Paul is a versatile artist who's works include seascapes, children, landscapes, animals and his love of flowers. In 1987 Paul Coney was chosen as the official artist for the America's Cup Challenge by the Bank of New Zealand Sponsors.In 2013 New Zealand Post commissioned Paul Coney for the New Zealand Game Bird Habitat Collection to celebrate World Wetlands Day for a stamp featuring the endangered Australasian Bittern. In 1991 and 1992 Paul Coney had two of his works featuring on the back covers of the Readers Digest in New Zealand and Australia.This year in 2019 Paul Coney was featured in a program dedicated to the Artist in a program called 'Colour in your Life' this episode is aired world wide in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, America and throughout Europe.  Over the 40 years of his career Paul Coney has exhibited or taken part in upwards of a hundred exhibitions in various galleries or Art Society's through New Zealand and overseas.  Paul Coneys works are sort after by discerning collectors throughout the world.

In This Workshop You'll Learn:
This is your chance to experience the growing phenomenon of painting with blended cold wax and oil paint in a relaxed and encouraging environment. We use our own cold wax medium made from refined beeswax encaustic medium and turpentine which is blended with quality oil paint.

You will get to create a cold wax painting to take home, with your own distinctive style and colour.

Introduction to tools of the trade and setting up a pallette.
• Introduction to colour blending and composition.
• Introduction to wax compounds, mediums and paints.

During this introductory workshop you will create experimental works on paper and also a finished piece on wooden panel to take home from the techniques you have learned, the perfect keepsake from a fun day, and maybe the beginning of a new pastime!

All materials included.
Morning tea included.  bring your own lunch.
