Amador High Advanced Placement (AP) Contract     2021-2022
You will be expected to complete a summer assignment for each AP course to which you commit.  Failure to complete this task will not afford you a schedule change to the College Prep (CP) option.  Should you change your mind about taking an AP class, you will not be automatically granted a seat in the CP option until there is room/enough seats.  This is a serious commitment.

Student's Responsibility:
I am willing and motivated....
* to learn at higher levels and at an accelerated pace.
* to commit myself to the rigorous college level expectations of an AP class and to persevere even when it becomes difficult.
* to work as an independent learner.
* to complete assignments that will require considerable course work outside of the AP class.
* to become an active participant in class discussions, debates, activities, labs, etc

I also understand that....
* AP classes have additional/more extensive outside class assignments.
* I will remain in the class for the entire year, and that drops will only be accepted during the 1st quarter of the fall semester and the first couple of weeks at the start of spring semester.
* as an AP student, I am expected to take the AP exam in the springtime and must commit in the fall.
* if I do not take the AP exam, I will be required to take a comprehensive final which will be averaged into my semester grade.
* if I drop an AP class that fulfills a graduation requirement, I will be required to enroll in a replacement course.
* Lack of work completion and participation may lead to a teacher directed removal from the course within the 1st quarter of the fall semester.

Parent's/Guardian's Responsibility:
I am...
* aware that AP classes are more rigorous and have higher expectations than regular high school courses. Therefore, I will encourage my student to honor commitment and persevere when the course becomes difficult.
* willing to support and encourage my child's progress in AP classes.
* willing to promote good study habits and establish an environment conducive to academic success.

I understand that...
* good attendance is vital for the pace of an AP class.
* to gain college credits for the AP class, my child will be expected to pay the required fee toward the coast of the AP exam.  (Note:  Fee reduction applications will be issued to eligible students.)
* the student's transcript will reflect that an AP test was taken.
