Join the Stokesley and Villages Repair Café Team
Climate Action Stokesley and Villages (CASaV) want to encourage people to tread more lightly on our Earth, by thinking globally and acting locally.  So the Waste Group of CASaV set up Stokesley and Villages Repair Café (SaVRC) to operate Repair Cafés across Stokesley and Villages, currently running in Swainby and Stokesley.   Repair Cafés reduce waste by extending the life of everyday items, save people the cost of replacing repairable items, educate people practically on how they can repair their own items and are great social occasion where where over cake and a drink you can see and discuss all the repairing going on around you.

People bring their items to be repaired and where possible they will be repaired during the Repair Café, where a repairer works in the presence of the owner to fix what's wrong.  Repair Café are not magic like Repair Shop, but a space where people get to practise and understand how things work and how to repair them.  When items can't be repaired at a Repair Café, then SaVRC offers appropriate advice including - "you just need this spare part, please get it and bring it to the next Repair Café", "contact a professional repairer", "past serviceable life - sadly it needs to be sent for recycling", "your item is still under warranty, so contact the manufacturer".

Please join us!

We are looking for local residents with different skills who can be present as repair experts during some the Repair Café sessions. We are especially looking for people who are handy with fixing:
clothing / textile, bicycles, computers / phones, electrical appliances, ceramics, glass, antiques, furniture / wooden objects, clocks, sharpening, hand tools

And who enjoy sharing their knowledge with their neighbours.

You don't have to be professionally qualified, you will only work within your competence, and you will be supported by the other repairers both with repairing, to be safe and to learn about other aspects of repairing.

In addition, we are also looking for people who wish to act as front of house and help administer the Repair Café. You provide coffee and tea, welcome visitors and serve as a contact point for both visitors and repairers in the Repair Café, making sure that everything runs smoothly.

We could also really use people who are handy with computers and the Internet!
