Health Education Community Survey 2020
Dear Te Ara Koropiko West Spreydon whānau,

Every two years we consult the community for feedback on issues related to health education.

The purpose of this survey is to hear our community voice. It is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, beliefs and values. Your input is vital to helping us shape a sexuality education programme that specifically meets the needs of our tamariki and communicates our school values.

Sexuality education includes learning about biology, but also friendships, relationships and social issues. Tamariki learn about themselves and develop the knowledge and skills to act in positive and respectful ways with others. It also helps to enhance a safe physical and emotional environment for everyone.

(The following is straight from the Education Act August 2020)
Release from tuition for specified parts of health curriculum

(1) A parent of a student enrolled at a State school may ask the principal in writing to ensure that the student is released from tuition in specified parts of the health curriculum related to sexuality education.

(2) On receiving a request under subsection, the principal must ensure that—
(a) the student is released from the relevant tuition; and
(b) the student is supervised during the period of release from that tuition.

(3) Subsection (1) does not require a principal to ensure that a student who is to be excluded from tuition in specified parts of the health curriculum related to sexuality education is excluded at any other time while a teacher deals with a question raised by another student that relates to the specified part of the curriculum.
