New Tech @ Gereau Commitment Contract 2020-21
Congratulations! We are so excited that you want to be a part of our New Tech @ Gereau family. By signing this commitment letter, you are indicating your intention to enroll in the New Tech program at The Gereau Center for the 2020-21 school year.

Students and parents understand that:
Since standards and skills in New Tech classes will be taught in a different order than in traditional eighth grade classes, students will not be permitted to transfer out of New Tech courses once enrolled.
New Tech at the Gereau Center has a culture of trust, respect, responsibility, kindness and high personal expectations.
Learning in New Tech occurs primarily through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PBL), Problem Based Learning (PrBL), and collaborative group work. New Tech students are required to work in teacher-selected groups on projects and problems related to course material.
New Tech students are assessed individually through teacher-created assessments, grade-level common assessments, and Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.
Students are graded on the following Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Thinking, Agency, Collaboration, Written Communication and Oral Communication. Parents can monitor students’ current grades using the ECHO learning management system. Grades will be updated in PowerSchool only for progress reports and at the end of each nine week grading period.
Regular school attendance is key to success in New Tech. Project group members depend on one another to complete their responsibilities each day, and participation in teacher-led workshops  is vital to understanding the content and skills for each unit.
New Tech students will be enrolled in year-long math (Algebra I or Pre-Algebra), English and Communications (EDIT), Science and Forensics (Sci-For), and semester-long Civics and Economics within New Tech
A New Tech student’s schedule will include one semester-long course outside of the New Tech program at The Gereau Center or at BFMS. Options for this course are Spanish, Graphic & Visual Design, Health Science, Architecture & Engineering, Computer Science, Geometry, Band, or Choir.
Pre-AP English, Pre-AP Science, and Health/P.E. courses are not available for New Tech students.
New Tech students can participate in all available athletic and extracurricular activities at BFMS.
New Tech students will have the option to continue participation in Eagle Tech at Franklin County High School, or they may choose to register for traditional ninth grade classes.
