RTMS PTO Nominations for 2023-2024
I want Thornton Middle School to be one of the best schools in Texas.
I want my child to have a great school year 23-24 to learn and to have fun!
I want to help decide how PTO fundraising moneys are spent.
I want all the students at Thornton Middle School to be successful.

If the above statements are true, then “help us help our school”. Parent involvement is critical for a successful school, so volunteer as a PTO officer or a committee chair for 2023-2024.  There are jobs that take no more than a couple hours a month, some are that are seasonal, and a few that require a routine commitment.

Voting will be held at the PTO General Meeting in May.

Elected Officer and Committee Chair Descriptions
The PTO Executive Board is comprised of elected officers, committee chairs, and school representatives.  It meets one morning per month to conduct PTO business.  Anyone may attend. General meetings for the entire membership are scheduled twice per year: one in the Fall to go over PTO business and, one in May to approve the budget and elect officers.

ELECTED OFFICERS
* All Elected Board members need to attend monthly meetings
* Elected at the general meeting                              
* Returning board members will be given priority by the nominating committee

PRESIDENT: Serve as leader and key contact for the PTO; preside at all PTO meetings; ex-officio member of most committees; appoint chairpersons for special committees; coordinate the work of the officers and committees so that the PTO’s objectives can be met.

VP FUNDRAISING: Act as an aide to the President; shall have such powers and responsibilities as may be determined by the President or the Board; Organize and Direct all Fundraising; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

VP BUDGET: Act as an aide to the President; shall have such powers and responsibilities as may be determined by the President or the Board; Organize and Direct the PTO budget; Oversee the Audit; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

SECRETARY: Shall attend all Meetings of the Members of the Board; Keep the minutes of all general meetings and all meeting of the Executive Board; distribute the minutes to all members of the Board within one (1) week and perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

TREASURER: Responsible for and have custody of all funds; make disbursements as properly authorized; be present at all PTO events where money will be collected; assure that PTO policies and best practices are followed with regards to funds; prepare financial reports for each meeting and as needed; prepare the books for an annual audit.

PARLIAMENTARIAN – Act as a consultant to assure that meetings and processes are conducted in accordance with bylaws; advise on parliamentary procedures using Robert’s Rules of Order; bring current copy of Constitution and By-Laws to all meetings; Act as chairman of the Nominating Committee; perform other duties assigned by the President or the Board.

VIPS: Responsible for coordinating the volunteer program within the school to meet the needs of the faculty, staff and students; perform other duties assigned by the president or the PTO Board.

STAFF APPRECIATION: Shall develop, implement and oversee programs approved by the PTO to show appreciation to the school faculty and staff; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO board.

PUBLICIST: Responsible for publicity for all events of the PTO; shall act as liaison between the PTO and the media; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

MEMBERSHIP: Responsible for conducting at least (1) annual Membership Drive of the PTO to commence at the beginning of the school year and conclude as deemed necessary by the board; collect membership dues; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

BOARD MEMBER AT-LARGE: Shall attend all Meetings of the Board; perform other duties assigned by the President or the PTO Board.

* Approved by PTO Board and Presented at the General Meeting

Career Day: Coordinate Campus Career Day, Provide students with an up-close and personal view of a wide variety of jobs.

Shared Dreams-is to help provide short term assistance to registered Fort Bend ISD students whose needs have been determined by their campus nurse with assistance from campus staff.

Marquee: Will work directly with PALS class for the Marquee.
