Abstract of the talk
Grammar is traditionally taught through explanations and exercises: but a lot of the exercises are clearly aiming to elicit correct sentences (gapfills, matching etc.), and can often be done without understanding the content.  Such types of practice probably don’t provide for optimal learning, and are also rather boring. In this session, I’ll begin by discussing why grammar should be presented and reviewed meaningfully, and present some examples of meaningful and learning-rich grammar-based activities.
