Workshop Wednesdays

The Workshop Wednesdays Leadership Series is a day-time leadership initiative coordinated by Reeve Union Student Involvement to offer opportunities for students to attend workshops throughout the year. Professionals across campus collaborate to offer workshops that will enhance participant’s leadership skills to provide professional development highly encouraged for successful employment after college. Many of these sessions could be added to a participant’s resume to promote their critical thinking abilities and leadership skills development.

All workshops last 45 – 60 minutes and are hosted in Reeve Union on Wednesday afternoons over the lunch hour sometime, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Please see the workshop selection for more details on the time and location of each session. All individuals who pre-register at least a week before a workshop will be provided a free lunch at the session. Individuals who are not able to pre-register are encouraged to bring a lunch with them. Please contact Carmen Hetzel at hetzelc@uwosh.edu, if you have any questions or ideas for future workshops.

September 27, 2023 in the Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - Healthy Relationships & Everyday Consent: Megan Berg from Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services and Rachel Parbs from Reach Counseling Services will share strategies for establishing healthy relationships and practicing everyday consent in all relationships. Through this workshop, you will be able to recognize and interrupt red flags and learn ways to set boundaries with classmates, friends and family, roommates, work colleagues, and intimate partners.

October 11, 2023 in Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - The Battle with our Bodies: Steps to challenge Weight Stigma, Unlearn Fatphobia, and Reclaim your Body Image from Society. Emily Brooke, New Student and Family Programs Manager, brings her knowledge and experience from a Master's in Social Work with an emphasis on Mental Health. She will equip participants with tools to reclaim societal expectations surrounding weight and self-image. With the increase of social media, research indicates that the steady stream of subconscious messages is steering individuals to thinner bodily standards to aspire to. Learn how to overcome internalized messaging, toxicity, and stigma around weight and dive deeper into the steps needed to unlearn internalized fatphobia and weight stigma.

Cancelled - November 15, 2023 in Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - Self-Advocacy and Evolution of Underrepresented Minority Leaders: In this workshop, Flor Hernandez-Lara, Student Success Navigator for Outreach and Retention, will help participants explore what makes them wonderfully unique and how their “must have” boundaries and expectations of others makes them better leaders. In this space, participants will discuss how personal and professional growth can change the dynamics of interpersonal relationships by embracing change and differences to evolve as more culturally competent leaders.

February 28, 2024 in Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - Difficult conversations are an inevitable part of life. How should you prepare for these kinds of discussions? How do you find the right words in the moment? And, how can you manage the conversation so that it goes as smoothly as possible? Find out the answers with Academic Retention Specialists- Alyssa Reyes Bolante and Esmeralda Delgado.

March 6, 2024 in Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - Sexual Assault Prevention, Advocacy, and Care: Rachel Parbs from Reach Counseling Services will present on drug facilitated sexual assaults and how to use preventative measures to keep your community safe. Participants will learn what to do if they think they, or someone in their community, has experienced a drug facilitated sexual assault. Join us in this workshop to strengthen your skills in awareness, advocacy, and care for your community.

April 10, 2024 in Reeve 212 at 11:30 a.m. - Stacy Dreweck from New Student & Family Programs will share strategies to meet your basic needs while attending UWO. Learn about services and resources that can help you extended your limited income and give you time and energy for course work and campus engagement to thrive at UWO. Gain valuable skills to support yourself and others struggling in our community.
