The SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results) Analysis is a simple strategic planning tool that blends a group's current status with the aspirations of its members to craft a shared and inspiring vision for the future. In this workshop, participants will conduct their own SOAR analysis, led by Donald Abels (Director of Greek Life in Student Life).
You've likely encountered SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) Analysis before, and you'll notice some similarities with SOAR Analysis. However, instead of putting our time and energy into identifying what's not working, we will explore the power of Appreciative Inquiry, a change management tool grounded in positive psychology, neuroscience, action research, and organizational development research. In addition, SOAR engages all levels of an organization, while SWOT is typically a top-down approach.
Donald Abels has contributed to higher education in the areas of prevention education, harm reduction, and organizational development and change. In response to an increased need for successful change management within higher education, Donald became an Appreciative Inquiry practitioner in 2019.
