Lifeguard Course BL. - May 17th - 19th
This is an American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguard Training 

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

This is a  Blended Learning Lifeguard Training. As a Blended Learning course, a portion of the training will be completed on your own via computer and will take approximately 6 hours. The remainder of the class will be in person with class work and in water skill sessions. The in person portion of the class runs over the course of three days and will take approximately 21.5 hours.

Cost: $225  non-employees / Free for employees who are currently working

Dates / Times:
May 17th, 2024: 4:00pm - 8:30pm
May 18th, 2024: 8:30am - 6:00pm
May 19th, 2024: 8:30am - 6:00pm

Times may be shortened or extended as needed. 

Total Time:
27 hours, 30 minutes
6 hours online and 21.5 hours in person

Course Prerequisites:

  1. Must be 15 years old at the end of the class
  2. Must successfully complete the online portion prior to the first day of class.
  3. Must successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:
  • Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

  • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
  • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
  • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
  • Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
  • Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.


The above skill test will be administered prior to the first day of class. You will be contacted to set up a time. You must pass the skill test in order to be allowed to take the course. It is strongly recommended that you practice the pre-test prior to taking it. 

You will be emailed a link to the online portion of the course at least a week prior to the start date.
