Workshop: Position Your Library to Provide Workforce Services to Your Community

Where: Brown County Library (Central Branch; “Pine Room”); 515 Pine St, Green Bay, WI 54301

When: Friday, May 24th, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (*FREE* Lunch included!)

Workshop Overview: Libraries are asked to do more than ever to help their communities thrive – often by assisting job seekers in gaining meaningful, livable employment. This can take the form of helping library users in job searching, application prep, and other social/employment services – which can be challenging for frontline staff to navigate alone. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and partners developed through the Library Workforce Connection (formerly LAWDS) statewide workgroup are hosting an in-person workshop on Friday, May 24th, at the Brown County Central Library (Pine Room) in Green Bay, WI, to facilitate collaboration, discuss available resources, and share networking opportunities for library staff.

  • Learn about multiple area-relevant workforce development and wraparound service initiatives, methods, and partnership opportunities. Presenters will include Chris Baker & Beth Tomev from the Library Services Team of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Mark Jochem (Workforce Development Consultant with the South Central Library System),  Danielle Zeamer (Library Services Associate, Brown County Library), Kellie Dunn-Poggemann (Workforce Readiness Director; the Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management), Millie Coby (Director of Community Engagement & Agency Impact, Employ Milwaukee), and the Forward Service Corporation in Green Bay.

  • Registrants will learn tips, strategies, and best practices for forming local partnerships in their own communities. Networking activities will be offered, so that by the end of the day on May 24th, you will come away with NEW connections tools and to help your communities thrive!

  • FREE catered lunch will be offered to participants. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be included by request.

This workshop was made possible in part by funding from the Institute of Museum of Library Services (IMLS), and is sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the Nicolet Federated Library System (NFLS), the South Central Library System (SCLS), and the Library Workforce Connection (LWC). We also want to recognize our workshop partners, the Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management (WISHRM), Employ Milwaukee, and the Forward Service Corporation.

Please contact Chris Baker (chris.baker@dpi.wi.gov) or Mark Jochem (mjochem@scls.info) if you have questions, or if you need to cancel/edit your registration.
