The University of Maryland Dental Brigades is a nonprofit student led organization. We will travel to Honduras in January 2020 to provide dental aid to underprivileged families and provide access to clean water.
The tentative dates for our brigades trip is 1/9/20 to 1/16/20 (the dates will ultimately be decided when we figure out the most affordable plane tickets for everyone).
This is truly an opportunity of a lifetime and will make you a unique pre-dental student. You will get the chance to meet other pre-dental students from UMD, spend a week shadowing/assisting dentists, build water wells for clean water, experience a new culture, and best of all, you will play a role in changing the lives of hundreds of people and serving the community.
You will not only to be able to shadow and assist dentists first-hand, but also be able to see dentistry practiced in a setting where oral health care is lacking. In one week during the winter of 2019, the dentists served 350 patients in the community of Los Hatillos and performed 381 fillings and 198 extractions. On average, there was more than one filling and almost one extraction done per patient. This is an excellent chance to witness dentistry practiced where it is most needed yet most sparse, and our members come back with a more holistic view on the importance of dentistry and oral health.
DEADLINE: September 13, 2019 @ 11:59 pm
