Welcome to the new school year! OUSD is committed to preparing all students for college, career and community success. Evidence shows that missing no more than 9 days per year has a significantly positive impact on students’ academic and social success from kindergarten through high school and beyond. By committing to this pledge, we will succeed together. In OUSD, everyone and every day counts.

CA Education Code:

CA. Education Code Section 48200 requires all children between the ages of 6 and 18 to attend school.
Absence from school shall be excused only for health reasons, family emergencies and justifiable personal reasons, as permitted by law, Board policy and administration regulations. (CA. Ed Code 46010, 48216, 48205)

As a Parent/Guardian, I pledge to: *

Ensure my child(ren) attends classes on time every day unless they are sick.

Communicate with school if I have challenges getting my child to school, if my child seems anxious to go to school, or any other issues impacting positive attendance and participation in school.

Notify office staff of any change in our family’s contact information (address, email, phone number).

Schedule my child’s medical and dental appointments, and family vacations so they do not conflict with school days.

Create at-home routines that support readiness and participation in the school day.

Monitor my child’s daily attendance to prevent chronic absence.

Attend meetings scheduled by the school on behalf of my child.

Communicate with teacher about missed learning and support my child to complete assignments.

Come to school on time every day unless I am sick.

Take care of myself by going to bed at a regular, reasonable time so that I can get plenty of sleep and be ready for school the next day.

Help my family by waking up on time, getting dressed and leaving home in enough time to arrive at school 10 minutes before the bell rings

Talk to a trusted adult at school if I am feeling anxious, uncomfortable or unsafe.

Work with my family and teacher to keep current with learning and assignments.

Provide information, resources and interventions to support positive attendance.

Communicate and partner with families to correct truancies and/or chronic absence.

Uphold CA Ed Code law by following district procedures for truancy, including SART (Student Attendance Review Team - site level )and SARB (Student Attendance Review Board - district level).
