STRATEGY A: AFFORDABLE AGING

Many older adults live on fixed incomes, which can make it difficult to afford the rising costs. As a result, some aging Minnesotans may have to make difficult choices between paying for housing or other essential expenses, such as medication and food.

Objective 1: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve basic needs are met?

Sample Idea: Explore methods to reduce the costs of prescription medications.
Objective 2: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve retirement preparedness?

Sample Idea: Provide incentives for employers with a tax credit to support senior staff retirement savings planning and pension.
STRATEGY B: ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTORS

Older adults play critical roles in the workforce and as volunteers, making social and economic contributions on which we all depend. Connecting with family, friends, and neighbors for its own sake is important at every stage of life.

Objective 1: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve older adults being viewed as vital contributors to the workforce?

Sample Idea: Develop community programs that raise ageism awareness and promote older adults.
Objective 2: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve valued volunteerism for all ages?

Sample Idea: Expand the Senior Volunteer Program.
