Set up with the aim of introducing dancers to the rigorous standards of global lindy hop and swing dance, this Junior Performing Team Program aims to achieve the twin goals of increasing the quality of dance locally, while also nurturing the next generation of performers and teachers for the SG scene.
If you are someone who is passionate about lindy hop, solo jazz, charleston, tap or swing dance in general, this program will help you to understand what it means to be dancing at as high level as possible a level as benchmarked against a global reference.
This program is holistic and not only works on dance technique and various performance skills, it also provides cultural and historical references to help you understand global trends in the dance and will equip you with the skills to make more specific choices for the dance into the future (such as which areas to specialize in) and to understand the importance and roles both social dancing and performance dancing play in growing and strengthening a community.
While we do not have all the details at the moment, this is what we do have :
- 6 month long program, consisting of 3 x 2 month series
- learn choreographies, routines and technique for performance (online/live pending social distancing restrictions)
- this series will have greater content on partnerwork than solo jazz (the first series was content adjusted to be solo jazz heavy due to social distancing restrictions)
- it is more ideal if you signup with a partner who you would like to work with as we do not guarantee pairing and balance in class
- earliest start date March (TBC, March is an estimate)
- Sign up to indicate interest, no obligations
- looking for dancers who are dedicated and willing to spend time working on their dance, open to learning new things and change their way of dancing, open to feedback and criticism as given by the programme trainers
