PHILOSOPHY

It is believed that parents/guardians, students, and staff share responsibility for education, including the appropriate program and facility. The Lincoln Park Public School District shares the State's philosophy that choice in the selection of an educational facility can promote a healthy learning environment. Selecting an educational facility necessitates careful review of the individual students, program offerings, and need. Students living within a school's identified boundary must be given first priority for enrollment, thus maintaining the neighborhood school concept. Students entering from outside the assigned school boundary must not jeopardize the education of neighborhood students by creating overcrowded conditions. They must not jeopardize the district's incentive revenues for class size nor violate existing contract provisions. Application for enrollment outside a neighborhood school must be in a timely fashion to allow adequate planning. Procedures must be clearly communicated to all parents/guardians.

Building of Choice- conscious selection of a school without regard to your Lincoln Park Schools boundary address

Neighborhood School - specific school building assigned for enrollment based on residency

School Boundary- geographic area used to determine the neighborhood school

PROCEDURES:

1. Selecting a school outside the boundary area is an important decision. The school district shall make counseling available through the Human Resource Office to parents requesting assistant in the decision-making process.

2. A formal application is required from all parents who wish to enroll a child outside their school boundary. Applications are available from the Board of Education Office. The Pupil Accounting Office shall receive all applications and a written response will be provided. Applications must be received by 3:45 PM at the Administration Building on Friday, May 22, 2020. If applications exceed openings, selection will be at random. The Superintendent or his designee will conduct a lottery. Open slots will be determined after all neighborhood children are served. It is assumed all children living within a school boundary will attend the neighborhood school unless an application to attend elsewhere is received and approved.

3. Parents/guardians who have enrolled a child outside their school boundary and wish to return to the neighborhood school must submit an application to the Administration Building no later and 3:45 PM May 22, 2020.

4. The Lincoln Park Public School District reserves the right to transfer students when deemed necessary.

5. Parents/guardians participating in Buildings of Choice assume responsibility for transportation.

6. Please be aware that siblings are not automatically granted Building of Choice. Please complete an application for each child.
