Yes, context switching at the very least results in saving of registers. We may also switch to a different process which fetches completely new data. This could potentially be expensive if it handles frequently and unpredictably.

Why is a Cache Miss expensive? *

A cache miss is expensive because we have to search for memory in main memory. Reads/writes in main memory are typically slower because of the time to seek to the right location, as well as the actual memory speed when compared to reading memory from the cache.

A cache miss is only expensive depending on the policy that is used.
