This is an extreme weather project. Historically this has been open up to 30 nights from December thru March as the temperatures reach below a certain temperature. In the past this project (at another location) was run by all volunteers. Due to the current pandemic we feel it is critical to have paid staff (contractors) to ensure we can properly take care of our unsheltered community. We are currently funded for December 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. This year we are increasing the temperature threshold to when the low temperature gets to 25 degrees and below. The shelter may also be open if there is precipitation. We expect to be open around 60 nights.

A “Sign up Genius” will be sent out on a 14-day cycle. Staff selects shifts within that time frame. If the day signed up for becomes a shelter day (25 degrees and below), then that staff will be working. Notification via text alert and hotline that day.

We will have two shifts. First Shift (5pm-9pm or 6pm-9pm) and Overnight (9pm-7am).
The first shift is to ensure the guest is safely checked into the Cold Weather Shelter, and that their needs have been met. Daily set up will also be required.

The overnight shift is to provide the sense and physical presence of a secure environment for the shelter guests and volunteers during the overnight hours.

We are intentionally taking precautions to ensure safety for staff and guests regarding Covid-19. Staff will be provided with masks and required to wear at all times. Guests will be required to wear masks at all times, with the exception of in their individual sleeping area. Are you ok with these requirements? *
