ABOUT HELPING IRISH HOSTS & WELCOME

Helping Irish Hosts (HIH) is a limited company formed by a group of hosts, working together with displaced and Irish based Ukrainians, to get people into Irish homes – quickly – to give them a soft landing, while avoiding Direct Provision and long term hotel / government accommodation stays.

We arose in direct response to the Ukraine crisis in March 2022. Our mission is to empower and support individuals and communities in Ireland to host Ukrainians in their homes, safely and sustainably. As of August 16, 2023, we have matched over 1,800 Ukrainians in more than 750 homes, created a vibrant, trusted support network for hosts and presented a strong voice in advocacy for hosts at all levels.

In April 2023 we joined a consortium of partners responsible for the activation of public accommodation pledges on behalf of the state (DCEDIY), along with IOM, Peter McVerry Trust and leading consortium partner, The Irish Red Cross.

We are funded by The One Foundation, The Sunflower Foundation, The Community Foundation, Choose Love and our Service Level Agreement with The Irish Red Cross. We are supported in other ways by a wide variety of individual, corporate and state partners. We are registered as a CLG (717469, April 13, 2022).

Our hosts are motivated by a desire to help people fleeing Ukraine and this is our focus. Our belief is that this response has the potential to transform Ireland’s ongoing refugee response, to finally move away from Direct Provision towards a system Ireland can be proud of.

We are hosts, helping hosts. Together, we are playing our part in this historic, unprecedented, global emergency humanitarian response. We believe that this is the best way forward.

What happens next?
Once you submit your form, you are on our system and one of our team will contact you - by phone. Please be patient.

We will do our best to find a suitable guest(s) to take up your generous offer of accommodation, it can some take time and we cannot make any guarantees. Please be patient. We reserve the right to determine the suitability of the Host and Guest match at our absolute discretion.

Please don't email us unless urgent, as we are limited in our capacity to respond and we don't want to let people down. But do please leave a message of support on our Instagram / LinkedIn / Twitter pages @helpingirishhosts @helpinghostsIRL using the hashtag: #helpingirishhosts. All hosts (and potential hosts) are welcome to join our private facebook group, here.

Did you know? As of June 2023, there are 6,223 registered hosts in Ireland, accommodating 13,699 displaced Ukrainians in pledged properties. That’s 16% of all Ukrainian arrivals to the state, living in Irish family homes and other pledged accommodation. It’s unprecedented evidence of the generosity of Irish people in responding to the war in Ukraine.

Thank you for your pledge.

Welcome aboard!
