The Saint Joseph Grade School Chess Club is open to students in grades 1-8, from total beginners to expert players. It is helpful if children have had some exposure to chess, but the only prerequisite is a desire to learn and practice the game. In addition to attending the club, students are encouraged to participate in SJGS-hosted tournaments, as well as other area tournaments.

The fall season will run for 9 sessions, beginning on Friday, September 20 and running through Friday, Nov 22 (no meeting on Oct 11). We will meet immediately after school on Fridays and children should be picked up promptly by 4:30pm.

COST: The Chess Club participation fee is $30 per child and will be billed through FACTS.

VOLUNTEERS: if the club is our typical size, we will need some parent help each week. Please plan on having a parent/grandparent/responsible sibling come help one time over the course of the season. Of course, we would also welcome anyone who wants to come regularly! A safe environment check is required in advance for anyone who has not already completed one.

TOURNAMENTS: we will try to host a tournament or two at SJGS during the fall semester, and we also hope some of our players will be able to participate in the K-12 grade level state tournament on November 2. Any tournament fees will be handled at a later date.
